Since 2018, the BioFuelNet Canada Network has led the management of the Biomass Canada Cluster, serving as its legal representative and executive authority. BioFuelNet Canada is a federally incorporated non-profit organization that plays a pivotal role in uniting Canada’s biofuels research community, industry, government, and key stakeholders to overcome barriers hindering the growth of the advanced biofuels sector. Focused on non-food biomass as a biofuel feedstock, BioFuelNet Canada adopts a network-driven approach, seen as the optimal way to advance the country’s bioeconomy.
With a strong track record in bioeconomy research and innovation, BioFuelNet Canada successfully led a national initiative from 2012 to 2018, integrating the expertise of over 230 researchers from 29 post-secondary institutions and 127 industry partners to develop an advanced Canadian biofuels industry under the Networks of Centres of Excellence of Canada program.
The BioFuelNet Canada management team is responsible for coordinating all scientific research, knowledge and technology transfer (KTT) initiatives, and impact assessment activities within the Biomass Canada Cluster. KTT activities are focused on de-risking decision-making processes by delivering evidence-based communication products and training events that mobilize agricultural operators across biomass value chains.
