BIOMASS CANADA CLUSTER

About BioMass Canada (BMC)

The Biomass Canada Cluster is a strategic, national initiative focused on advancing research in sustainable biomass production and management, developing innovative technologies and knowledge to combat climate change and promote Canada’s circular bioeconomy.

The Cluster engages in late-stage R&D and pre-commercial field trials, integrating cutting-edge technologies aimed at increasing biomass production, advancing conversion methods, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and generating carbon credits. This approach enhances profitability for agricultural producers while contributing to environmental sustainability and a low-carbon future.

Uniting Canadian research-intensive universities, government research facilities, and key industrial partners, the Cluster optimizes agricultural biomass supply chains and develops advanced technologies to produce biomass and high-value agricultural products. This collaboration aims to achieve cost-effective, sustainable, and efficient use of Canada’s biomass resources, delivering significant economic benefits to Canadians.

Biomass Canada also plays a crucial role in facilitating knowledge transfer, fostering talent development, and leveraging both national and international partnerships.

Established in 2018 by the BioFuelNet Canada Network, the Cluster is currently in its second phase, funded in part by the Government of Canada under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and with contributions from industry partners.
